Clay County Politicians in the News-7/11/2006

Time for another update of our politicians in the news.

US Representative Sam Graves-Congressman Graves cosponsored Small Business legislation, HR 2965, is intended to update and strengthen the Small Business Innovation Research Program. The bill was passed handily in Congress 386-41. There is an interesting counterpoint to this issue. Some say that this allows to much venture capital into small business which allows large businesses to find their way in. I think it’s a legitimate question to ask. My other concern is that this sounds like welfare for small businesses, the SBIR just hands out grants to these small businesses. Don’t get me wrong I believe strongly in developing small business in this country but if we don’t want handouts shouldn’t we be consistent?

US Senator Claire McCaskill-Poor little can’t seem to understand why Sen. McCaskill is backtracking on cap and trade. Personally I am going to enjoy this because it is nice when they start to eat their own. Especially one so close to Obama. Ladies and gentleman they are starting to listen!

State Senator Bill Stouffer Interesting article on proposed truck only lanes on I-70. From the surface this seems way too expensive, but I would be curious to see if it is feasible. Sure sounds like a great idea!
